Description
The West System A Pack Epoxy kit combines the West System 105 epoxy resin and either the 205 (fast) or 206 (slow) hardener.
Which West System Hardener should I use, the 205 (fast) or 206 (slow) hardener?
West Systems produce two basic hardeners, the 205 (fast) and the 206 (slow), each with different attributes.
West System 205 (fast) hardener:- A medium viscosity curing agent, useful in lower temperatures and to produce a rapid cure that develops the epoxies physical properties quickly at room temperature. Suitable for temperatures approximately ranging between 5°C to 30°C.
West System 206 (slow) hardener:- A low-viscosity curing agent, useful when extended working and cure time is required or to provide adequate working time at higher temperatures. Suitable for temperatures approximately ranging between 14°C to 33°C.
When either hardener is mixed with the West System 105 resin in a five part resin to one part hardener ratio, the cured epoxy mixture yields a rigid, high-strength, moisture resistant, solid finish with excellent bonding and coating properties.
| Ratio | Gel Time at 25°C & 100g mass | Open Time at 25°C with thin film | Cure to solid at 25°C with thin film | |
| 205 (fast) | 5:1 | 10-15 minutes | 60-70 minutes | 5-7 hours |
| 206 (slow) | 5:1 | 20-30 minutes | 90-110 minutes | 9-12 hours |
